Fast, factual, and honest about limits

DiskCT does one job: show where space is used now, without deciding what you should delete.

Allocated size

See space allocated by the file system instead of treating logical file size as local usage.

Four analysis views

Treemap, hierarchical List, Large Files, and File Types, with search, sorting, and drill-down.

Special files explained

Count hard-linked data once and identify sparse, compressed, and cloud-only content.

Blind spots stay visible

Permission failures and unreadable metadata are listed clearly, never disguised as empty folders.

Cloud placeholders stay put

Scan file-system metadata and skip cloud-only placeholders instead of reading file contents.

Results stay on your Mac

No account, ads, or analytics SDK. Clear the scan index, authorized locations, and settings anytime.

Completely free, with no paywall

No subscription, ads, or in-app purchases. Core scanning, accurate size reporting, and analysis stay available to everyone.

FAQ

How do I start a scan?

Click Choose Folder and authorize it in the system panel, or drop a folder directly into DiskCT.

Does the App Store version need Full Disk Access?

No. The App Store build is sandboxed and accesses only locations you explicitly select and authorize.

Will it download iCloud files?

DiskCT analyzes metadata and attempts to skip cloud-only placeholders instead of reading file contents to calculate local usage.

Does DiskCT clean files automatically?

No. DiskCT is an analyzer. It does not recommend deletions, select files automatically, or perform bulk cleanup.

Are scan results uploaded?

No. Paths, scan results, and settings stay on your Mac and can be cleared under Settings > Data.

Which macOS versions are supported?

macOS 14 and later, on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
